Butterbian is built around exactly that problem — your system should be snapshotted before anything breaks it, and it does that for you out of the box, with subvolumes laid out correctly, Timeshift configured, and grub-btrfs wired in so you can roll back directly from GRUB if things go sideways. Butterbian That's a genuinely useful default that most distros — including much bigger ones — still don't offer. Every apt install, apt upgrade, and apt remove automatically creates a snapshot before it runs. On top of that, Timeshift keeps weekly and monthly snapshots on its own schedule. The installation was easy and there are several options to install different applications. The availability of customized bash is also a nice touch. The BTRFS file system with instant snapshots works flawlessly. That is why I actually tried this distro. Even the XFCE desktop is set up nicely. I tried using spiral linux but something always went wrong with the Debian upgrade. For a first release it is working very well. Very lite on resources and I have not run into any hiccups.
